My busy life makes time go by very fast, but when I look back at it it feels like days and days have gone by when it's only been one. I find myself thinking I haven't done that since Saturday, oh wait, that was yesterday. I've always been fascinated by how we perceive time and I read some mystical explanation somewhere that time is something we invented to keep stuff from happening at the same time. So obviously, when you do a lot off stuff, you get extra time to keep it all separate, which explains how so many days can pass for me between Saturday and Sunday.
I wonder what the long term effects are of superliving like this, will I grow old quicker and suffer dementia soon or will the extra time keep my brain going longer? Is it time that makes us work and when we stop needing time to separate things, due to not doing much, is that when it all clogs up and become useless?
Hopefully I can return with a report from the front of temporal disturbance and let you know how it's going, but if this is my last post, than I probably fell over into the twilight zone, or possibly a Star Trek episode.
PS. The title is a quote from a Simon&Garfunkel song (or at least Paul Simon wrote it) although I like the cover the Bangles made better. It's called A Hazy shade of Winter which might soon be even more true since mornings are getting colder every day (or in my case every few days).

Lots of work!
Obviously I'm too busy to maintain a blog, or possibly not a very avid teller of everyday anecdotes. Well, here's a little update.
Fall has truly come to Linköping and half the leaves have fallen. At my office we sit in an open area, five of us, and behind my back is a gigantic windowed wall displaying a great view of a parking lot, some landscaped areas and a golf court. So when I get fed up with work I can turn my chair around and look out the window. These past sunny, lovely autumn days have been a splendid feast for the eye, but now it's turned drab. The sky is overcast, the air is a little foggy and most of the foliage has fallen and what is left are muted earth tones. It looks cold and inhospitable. Only the lonely little 3-year old birch has any leaves left and tries to put a golden edge on the day.
We have too much to do and too few resources at my project so we've been ordered to overtime. It makes my belly hurt, cause the evenings and weekends, that's when I'm alive, and work, that's just the means to an end, the end of having enough money to do stuff when I've got free time. The thought of working 44 hours a week till Christmas makes me wanna cry, but of course I pretend I don't care when I'm at work, and sneak of to cry in the bathroom instead. Seems that's the way of women in the workplace.
Last week I could feel myself coming closer and closer to turning blue and exploding and I ranted about it with my friends and Jane, thanks Jane if you read this, made a few good pointers that put me back in perspective, so now I've taken an axe to my almanack and cancelled as much as possible that seemed to fall into the category of "not really what I like doing" or "someone else will do this even if I don't". It cleared up enough time to make me feel better about the whole thing again. :)
Apart from all this work related tension I've been sort of busy myself too, trying to fit some semblance of a life between work and the spex, not sure how well that turned out, but hopefully it'll be OK. I went to aikido this Friday and it was SO much fun! After an hour of chatting with the aikidokas and sitting in the sauna me and Mika went to Peter to play wii. Mathias came along too. The wii was fun, not as revolutionary as some of my friends have claimed, but still nice. I can see how the party games such as Wario: Smooth moves work great on this platform, both to play and to watch other play. Mika left early to sleep (he's got a new fixed idea) and after Mathias left too I played some Zelda with Peter. Not much fun though being in the middle of a game and not really knowing what's happened or where it's been going. But it's always nice to have gamer friends. I got home kind of late and woke up horrid early, with nightmares about work. *shiver*
On Saturday I had planned a short hike with a friend but he cancelled last minute and I was sort of bummed over that. However, I spent time with AC and Jane instead. And seeing how I got my period (which was 8 days late) I wasn't really in the hiking mood anyway, more in the sitting at home and eating chocolate mood. However, no chocolate for me, since I'm trying to give up the candy/sugar thing. I had dinner with Jane and Anders and little Alvar on Saturday night and it was great. We watched to Buffy episodes too, Something Blue and Hush, two of my favorites. Lots of fun.
Sunday I went on a lot of walks, first to visit Dekor at the yellow barn, where I got to eat lunch which was very good! I just love Dekor. They are always such nice people, somehow. There was a new girl, Frida, and she seemed really nice too. :) After that walk I went to see Mia and we took a walk too and then we sat in her living room, having tea and cake, and talking about life and work (more ranting from me) and priorities. Very good talk. Sometime in the middle of the day I realised I'd forgotten about Winter time and got to set my clocks back an hour, and it felt like I got a whole extra hour which I spent watching the last episode of Angel season 3, Tomorrow. It ended with such a cliff hanger that I now feel I really really have to get season 4 too, even though I don't particularly like it.
And then it was Monday morning... I tried to be at work at 7 am to get a ton of work done before my deadline catches up with me, but I couldn't get in. Usually key and code is enough, but this morning it also required a card, and I hadn't brought mine, since I never need it. So I spent an hour waiting outside the door till it suddenly clicked and changed to only needing code again, not at 6:55 like it should, but at 7:55. Someone must have double erred on the winter time.
Well. Now I'll return to work! Work, work, work - fun, fun, fun.

A trip to Riga with my work
We've been to Riga in Lettland on a conference with work. I have never traveled much, mostly cause I get motion sickness and is more of a home girl, but I do like being places, and this trip was well worth the nausea and boredom of busses, airports and flights.
We left Linköping by buss on friday morning, heading for Skavsta airport, that's just outside of Nyköping (despite the fact they call it Stockholm Skavsta). Since all airports are more or less alike I wont write much about that. We got on the plane which was half an hour late due to late arrival, and took off for Riga. We landed 10 minutes late and got onto another buss after passport control and waiting for luggage. Marvelously everyones bags arrived to the same airport.
The buss from the airport in Riga to Hotel Riga (where we were staying) took a roundabout with a guide talking about Lettland and Riga. I felt she spoke from her heart and the bitterness that lay there shone through when she spoke about the russians who still live in Lettland, the horrid inflation of prices (food was twice as costly as last year but incomes the same) and the corruption of healthcare, politicians and bureaucracy. We went part a lot for pretty houses, all crammed up next to the shabbies shady wrecks you might imagine.
After arrival to the hotel everyone ran out to the nearest shop, Rimi, to get the essentials, which in most cases turned out to be chips/crisps and alcohol. We had dinner planned for 19 friday evening and only two hours of Own time before that. The girls (all four of us against 30-something guys) had a private preparty where we gossiped, primped and had some wine and cheese. Myself I only had iced tea, cause of a dreadfull headache and feeling ill that the travelling gave me (hence my not being found of travel). We made a quick appearence at the preparty of the guys (in the bosses room, cause he shared a suite). After that we all went off to dinner.
It rained outside and was really windy, so the party for the group with the map hurried off very quickly, leaving the rest of us behind. We went about the Old Town in Riga for a while, mostly wildly lost in the rain and wind, until we found the right restaurant, Restaurant Put Vejin. We were seated 4 and 4, I had Johan, Magnus and the new guy Magnus at the table and tried being funny by saying that Johan should change his name to make it easy on me. Noone laughted that I noticed. Darn.
We ate a sallad, fish with mashed potatoe and meaningless sauce and for desert a brown cake with some kind of dairy product and berries. The cake wasn't sweet, which was a bit weird at first, but it was still nice. We had plenty white wine to drink and everyone was in a great mood. In the middle of dinner a group of folksy singers/dancers came to entertain us. Halfway through they chose some random people to join in the silly dancing, and of course all four girls had to join. It was great fun though, cause I love cheesy folksy stuff. After dancing everyone was warm and had a lot more wine to drink, merryment insued.
After dinner we left the restaurant and drifted around Riga by night. People were diveded between pubing and dancing. Some drifted around the Old town for hours and some went back to hotel to sleep, I assume. Some where up so late they missed breakfast which was served 7-11. Posssibly the lame exuse of "I forgot to set my clock forward one hour to Lettland time" was the truth though, only the gotlänning knows the truth.
I slept poorly, had a hard time coming to rest with all the impressions plus the bed was hard, the room was very cold and drafty and there was plenty noise of wind and cars from outside. The only reason I believe I slept is all is that I woke up three times during the night. In the morning I woke before the cell phone alarm, cause I'd forgotten to set the cell phone clock forward one hour. I woke two minutes before it would have started and lay there wondering why it never did, as usual. Somehow I know what time it is even when I'm sleeping. It doesn't work unless I commit by actually setting the alarm though, weird.
Well, I spent the morning and noon walking around Riga with some guys from work. We had strict instructions to never walk alone, but who'd want to do that when can have friends along? We visited the market, four big halls with stands selling mostly food. The first one we entered was the meat hall. Entering was like walking into a wall, of smell. No stench, it was more subtle than that, but very very intense and special. My eyes almost watered and my head spun a bit. Very weird feeling. Meat everywhere, in dishes, hanging on hooks, people butchering right and left. Lots of people shopping, most of whom looked tired and a bit worn, not that different from swedes. There were a lot more facial hair though, great moustaches, weird side burns and beards. Every time we came across another specimen Johan pointed it out. He seemed in awe, perhaps some kind of beard envy, seeing as how his own growth was on the thin side.
After the meat there was bread, greens and last fish. The hall with greens smelled heavenly, a crisp sense of fall and summer mingled, with a sweet overtone and a rich earthy bottom. The bread hall had a dusty feeling and the fish hall smelled homely of sea and fish. A lot of the fish was stilll alive and either wriggled and flapped in trays or swam around in tanks. People seemed happier among the fish than among the meat.
Outside the halls there were lots of stands with stuff, like hats, mittens, CDs (Samantha Fox and DrAlban!), cassettes (wow, what an 80ies feeling) and some more produce. I shopped a pair of knitted socks, a green hat and some pastries (that turned out to be less sweet than expected, perhaps they have a shortage of sugar?).
After the marked we rambled around the old Town looking for a place to lunch. The gotlänning joined us after missing breakfast and we found a german inspired place that was really good. It had all the signes of a tourist trap, but who cares when the food is nice, the place cool and not too expensive.
In the afternoon we had a conference meeting and a motivational speaker, some kind of hockey guy that the hockey nerds recognised. He was good though, despite the lack of fame he had in my world. After the meeting (4 hours out of the whole weekend) we had another preparty. It's a very swedish thing, mostly I think due to the high cost of drinking out in sweden as compared to drinking at home. The girls had decided on a dress code, black skirt and top, and met to primp at first. I had ordered something "sliskigt" to drink and gotten two weird ciders, Cherry and Sweet Kiwi. The former tasted strongly of artifical cherry taste taste and the latter a lot of yeast. However, I drank both and had a great time. We got lost a lot on the way to dinner that night too, but it didn't rain so everyone was in a better mood. Finally we arrived at Restaurang Rozengrals which was a very cool medevil (or how do you spell it?) cellar. We had a very nice mushroom soup for starter, a whole fish each with stewed "korn" with raisins and walnuts for main dish and for desert a dry and not very sweet lemony cake. I only ate the soup and the fish. Those were the best. To this we had "free beer" which I didn't like very much.
After dinner we went around Rigas Old town for hours, trying to find a karaoke bar or a pub, or anything. We failed rather miserably, one place was dead empty, one was filled with kidz, one didn't like foreigners and when we finally found Kuba that we'd been looking for it was so full only two of us got in. The place looked really nice though, with a thick atmosphere. Finally me, Johan and Ulrika gave up and went to McDonalds where we had chicken wings and McLavash. McD was cheap in Riga. Then we returned to the hotel and slept. I figured out a way to wrap the bed cover into a coocon around the madrass and slept a lot better.
However I woke up early and at the breakfast I found Dan and Mattias. We went on a 2 hours walk around the Jugend blocks of newer Riga and took plenty photograps of wonderfull facades. I'll have me many merry moments watching those architectural porn photos. Aaaarrrhhhh, I just love surfaces! I'll update this post with some photos once I've had a chance to sift through them.
And then we all got on the buss and went home. It was a great trip and now it's monday!

Hannibal is over! Yay!
Since my last post we've played the last two Hannibal performances. The friday show was possibly the best we've had, except in Örebro, and saturday was good even though the audience was on the small side. We had a great party too, Saturday night, and when I left at 3:30 there was still a lot of party going on.
Now it feels really good, Hannibal is over, I kvalet efter valet is over and I can focus my energy a little more with only one spex going on. :) Yay for me!
It's autumn now, getting rather cold in the morning and raining a lot. Leaves all over the bicycle paths though, that make nice crispy sounds when I drive over them. Tihi. Which is one of the reasons I love autumn.
I've been trying to find a new jacket or a coat to wear till winter comes, but have had no luck so far. The least bad one I tried on was at Lindex but at 800 SEK I'd want one that I actually liked. I guess I'll make do with hoods and my old jacket for a while longer.
My lil-little brother has his birthday soon and I bought him a Xmen DVD trilogy box. I called out father to ask if he already it and my father said he'd check and I could hear him calling out "Do you have the X-men trilogy DVD box? Jenny is thinking of getting it for your birthday." That's very subtle, isn't it. However it turned out he didn't and that he rather fancied it, so I got it for him, allthough the suprise is ruined. Now I only have to remember sending it in the mail this afternoon, or it'll get there too late!

No! All this life and nowhere to put it.
We went on tour with Spex07 and had lots of fun, less sleep and to top it off I returned home with a horrid cold. My throat hurt so much I could barely swallow nor talk. Needless to say I spent wednesday-friday home from work, watching Angel, Second Sight, playing PuzzlePirates and Nintendo DS. The weekend wasn't that much better either, so no aikido camp in Torsby for me.
This weekend Spex08 are going away on Missmudden, a kick-off weekend, and the next weekend Hannibal play the two last shows. I look forward to leaving that behind and only working on one spexproduction instead of two. Spex08 is enough for me, and directing the actors is enough to keepme busy and out of sleep occassionally.
Well, I'll end this post with a reference to the picture. This is a game: figure out the movie, the winner get to make the next picture, only Paint-like applications qualify for the drawing. Honestly I only thought it turned out real nice and wanted to show it off. :)

Animal Crossing: Wild World - Nintendo DS

Fall is here and everything's starting up
Wow, time sure flies now that the fall is here and everything has started up again.
The two last performances of spex07, I kvalet efter valet, went very well and we had great audiences, especially at the Sunday show. After the show was over we cleaned out the theatre and went home. I spent a while on top the "light tower" getting the stage lights down for packing. It was fun, but I miss the old tower, it was less wobbly. The new one makes me more nervous, somehow. It's less roomy too, perhaps that's it.
This Monday was the first session for Klipp&Kör and a good time was had by me and all the ladies that came. We had a grand total of two men this Monday, which is a step down from the three we had last semester. However, one of the two men was new, so perhaps we'll have four before long! I decided to only go every other week this semester, to get some free time to do nothing, basically.
On Tuesday the next spex, spex08, started up, at least for me, it was the first drama rehearsal and I had prepared a list of stuff to do with my actors, now that I'm a director. Mostly we played games and did improvisation practices. It was lots of fun. Daniel brought water melon and we all gobbled it down. Yum.
I also finished Solen är en fet gud on Tuesday and it was really good. I went and borrowed the next book on the "series" at once and started reading it last night.
Today I have a singing lesson. I didn't practice my homework very much, having three songs is really bad. I hope I'll just plain remember the last lesson and be better than then somehow, or I'll have to be embarrassed, again. *blush*
Tonight is also aikido practice, weapons class, and I should go, but I just heard that the usual instructors wont be there and I'm not too keen on anyone else, so perhaps I'll laze at home instead and do some cleaning and Nothing much, by which I mean play Puzzle Pirates.
Oh, and now it's time for afternoon tea! Yay. Lucky me.
